Soap Opera Round-up 1/2 to 1/6 2012

BEST SHOW OF THE WEEK: Again, ONE LIFE TO LIVE has me on the edge of my seat with each episode as every Llanview villain they could scrape up seemed to have escaped in the jail break. But the stand-out episode was on Friday, January 6th, when Starr Manning sang a tear-jerking rendition of "One Life to Live". Even with the drama unfolding on the screen, the soap viewers are too aware of the double meaning of that song. This will be one hell of a hard week coming up, having to say goodbye to a soap that is being axed before its time.

BEST ACTOR, ACTRESS AND SCENE OF THE WEEK -- Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso (DAYS OF OUR LIVES); Bo and Hope's long-time-in-coming therapy session. Where was Marlena when Zack was killed? Oh, yeah...she was probably messed up with Alex North or kidnapped or "dead" or whatever...in that wacked out world of James E. Reilly (may he rest in peace). Peter Reckell and kristian Alfonso can still knock it out of the park when they have a scene that they can sink their teeth into. And I'm loving that Marlena is actually working as a psychiatrist again. I haven't seen her treat this many patients since the 1970s!

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS -- ALL SHARON AND VICTOR 24/7. So far the best thing out of this latest plot development has been the great Nikki/Victor New Year's flashback...and of course, Adam Newman has yet another reason to hate his father (which gives one of my faves, Michael Muhney, something to do). I am not as outraged as so many of the Y&R fans regarding this storyline; but it is a tedious waste of time. On the upside, I am loving Melissa Clare Egan (Chelsea) so far as the newest obstacle for Billy and Victoria. With Darnell Williams also signed up for the soap, Genoa City is starting to resemble Pine Valley more and more.

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL -- OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE STEFFY SHOW. I've said ad nauseum how tired I am with this Hope/Liam/Steffy thing...but it seems I have no choice but to endure it. Granted, if the boring Amber storyline is the only other plot available...I guess I can deal. Okay, I'll say it. I don't care how much older Bill is than Steffy. That couple has more in common, more chemistry, more everything...than Liam and Steffy. It is not a contest. Personally, I find Hope and Liam as exciting as watching paint dry...but the Steffy/Bill couple had all kinds of dramatic possibilities, affecting all the Forresters and Logans in a big way. And really, Katie is just more interesting when she gets so worked up that she is on the verge of a heart attack.

GENERAL HOSPITAL -- SO BORING I BARELY REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK. Everyone found out Jax was alive. Okay. Spinelli moved out of Jason and Sam's place. Yeah whatever. Maxie is being a witch. What else is new? Ethan is still chasing after Ghost Woman. Robin is still agonizing over leaving. Michael is still going off the rails because of his girlfriend's death. Yawn. It is kind of amazing to me how the writers managed to churn out a week's worth of episodes and accomplish pretty much nothing with the plot of any storyline. We have an emergency on this show. Stat! I am sure ABC is responsible for flatlining GH on purpose so that we can have more invigorating fare like "The Chew" and "The Talk" and blah blah blah. I guess they are hoping the GH fans won't give them grief when they ax this show because we'll all be asleep from boredom.

VENICE -- Season 3, Episode 6 -- Judi Evans makes her appearance this week on the web series as Logan, one of Gina's exes. Fun to see Judi play a role very different from DAYS' Adrienne. Wow, that Gina gets around with three of her old flames showing up at her party! A fun episode this week. By the way, Happy Anniversary for Michael Sabatino and Crystal Chappell. www.venicetheseries.com

PRETTY THE SERIES -- Season 3, Episode 5 -- Chaos on "Pretty"? I can't imagine it!!! Bullets rain down at the Miss Black Star Eyes Pageant. Soap opera actors Martha Byrne (ex-Lily, ATWT) and Terrell Ransom, Jr. (Theo, DAYS) in this one. http://www.prettytheseries.com/
