Josh Taylor (Roman Brady, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) -- November 9th, 2013

OUTTAKES:  Why do you think DAYS has been on the air for fifty years?  What is it about DAYS that fans love?

JT:  First of all, it’s been a family group.  The Cordays have been behind this forever.  They created it; and so there has always been a Corday involved in it.  So I think that’s leant to a continuity of quality.  I just think it’s grown over the years; and I’ve been there a lot of those years.  It always seems to maintain a very good quality of writing and production values.  And they’re not afraid to touch controversial or touchy subjects.  They’ve always been good about that. 

OUTTAKES:  Lately we’ve seen Roman looking out for Sami and all that…but what would you like to see happen if you could control the storyline of Roman?  What kind of storyline would you like to have?

JT:  Over the years, I’ve probably suggested ten storylines.  I think I’m owed for ten.  I thought the stuff we had when Stefano had been killed was good.  I thought the investigation where I had to investigate all those people was very good.  Kate and I had a lot of fun together.  Who knows what would rise again?  But Lauren and I had a good time doing the Kate and Roman story.  Who knows?  That could be a possibility down the road.

Bill and Susan Hayes (Doug and Julie Wiliams, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) -- November 9th, 2013

OUTTAKES:  When will we see Doug and Julie back in Salem again?

SSH:  You’ll be seeing Doug and Julie at Christmastime…of course!  As you always do, gathered around the Horton Christmas tree, hanging the ornaments.  And this year, Billy is…?

BH:  I get to play Santa again for the third time.  I love it.  And we hang the Horton balls again this year, of course.

SSH:  And following Christmas, Julie will be making a few appearances in an upcoming storyline in which Julie smells a rat.  I would say that kind of encapsulates the thrust of what I’m doing.  An event has taken place; and only the audience knows.  The rest of the cast doesn’t.  But Julie suspects…and she runs around to all the cast saying something’s wrong here.  And the cast says, Julie’s crazy.  But Julie isn’t.  So stay tuned. 

OUTTAKES:  Something to look forward to.  The last interview we did together, we talked about your book, TRUMPET.  Is there any chance of a sequel or perhaps another historical fiction book that you guys are going to work on together?

SSH:  We are still selling TRUMPET and still talking about it; and Bill has begun a sequel. 

BH:  We’ll be writing it together.

SSH:  We’ll be writing it together, but he is already about 350 pages in.

BH:  Well, that’s just in preparation…

SSH:  In preparation.  We’re outlining plots now and going home and worrying about it and thinking about it and enjoying it all the time.  When last our heroine was discovered, she was in Charleston, South Carolina; and we just got back from visiting Charleston two weeks ago.  So yes, a sequel is in the works.

OUTTAKES:  So you’ve had to do a whole new batch of historical research for the sequel which you guys really love to do?

SSH:  Absolutely!  Moving forward.  Ever onward.  Ever onward.

OUTTAKES:  How have you enjoyed DAY of DAYS?

AS:  It’s been awesome.  So much fun to get a chance to see all the fans and talk to everyone.

JS:  We have been having a tremendous time.  It’s very exciting.

OUTTAKES:  EJ and Sami are the supercouple on DAYS right now.  What is it about them that the fans love so much?

JS:  I think it’s just the determination to stay in one another’s circle for such a long time.

AS:  Yes.  No matter what.  No matter how.  They are willing to do anything to torture each other or be together and happy.  Whichever.

OUTTAKES:  They’re either trying to be good for each other, sort of redeem themselves.  Or they just give in to the dark side.  Do you guys enjoy playing Sami and EJ on the dark side?  Do you have a preference of how you play those characters?

JS:  I love the dark side; and not only do I love playing EJ’s dark side, but I love when Alison plays Sami’s dark side.  We love it when we get to work with that.

AS:  Yes.  No doubt that it’s so much fun.  I like their struggle.  I think it’s fun that they try not to get into the completely dark side.  That they find some way to live in the gray area.  They take turns.  One of them gets a bad idea...and the other one is like, no, you don’t want to do that.

OUTTAKES:  Ali, I had read that you’ve got another book in the works.  Is it a sequel to THE STAR ATTRACTION?

AS:  Yes, it’s in the same sort of realm as THE STAR ATTRACTION.  It’s about Hollywood, but it’s about another leading character.  She ends up working with Billy Fox.  It’s a new group of characters with some crossover but a different story.

Drake Hogestyn and Deidre Hall (John and Marlena Black, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) -- November 9th, 2013

OUTTAKES:  Fans are very excited.  Deidre, a few days ago you put up a picture on Twitter of you two together again reunited on the show; and the fans went crazy.  What is it you think about John and Marlena that the fans love so much?  What is it about this couple that is so popular to this day?

DEIDRE:  I think the appeal to John and Marlena on the show is that they are a solid couple.  They have been through everything imaginable.  They have come through.  And they have survived because of their devotion and love for each other.  Our show is based on happy couples…happy families.  Mac [Carey] and Frances [Reid] were the patriarch and matriarch of the show; and since they’ve left, there’s a hole to be filled.  And I think we’re a pretty good pair for that.

DRAKE:  I like the way you put that.

OUTTAKES:  Drake, for this last hiatus, what have you been doing?

DRAKE:  I’ve been busy.  If truth be known, I sold my house in Malibu; and we will be closing on the 22nd of November.  The ultimate game plan was to move back to my home state of Indiana where my doctor daughter has just moved her practice from New York.  And what do you know?  The spin of the ball changed.  And I was asked to come back to the show.  My wife said, “OK, genius, now what?!”  So we basically don’t have a place to live; and I’ve got to figure things out by the middle of next week.

OUTTAKES:  John Black.  We’ve seen him go through so many different personality changes over the years.  Do you have a favorite personality of John’s that you really enjoyed playing the most…whether it was the priest or the brainwashed guy or…?

DRAKE:  I have to go back to the very beginning.  If you were to walk into my dressing room right this minute, I only have one book in there; and it is still THE BOURNE IDENTITY.  From the beginning of the story of John being the hospital victim in Miami and being put back together, coming into Salem, latching on to one person…and that person was Marlena.  She was the one person that could pull him through the hole in the garden wall as I call it.  Everything about that first part of the storyline was the most impactful; and that is where I root the character.  That is why I think John and Marlena are so successful, getting back to your first question.  Because he relied on her; and even though she had doubts, she did not let him down.  He will forever be indebted to her. 

OUTTAKES:  Deidre, we’ve had a couple of books of yours that have come out recently.  KITCHEN CLOSE-UP and HOW DOES SHE DO IT.  Do you have any more books that you’re planning on putting out?

DEIDRE:  Both of those books are still available on http://deidrehall.com/.  I’ve also got holiday cards that are also on the website.  A watercolor that I did last year and turned into a holiday card.  And it’s only important to me because 100% of the proceeds go to the Wounded Warriors project.  So I would encourage people if they have an investment in that project to go to http://deidrehall.com/ and please order holiday cards.  I underwrite everything and everything else goes to Wounded Warriors.

Mary Beth Evans (Kayla Johnson, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) -- November 9th, 2013

OUTTAKES:  You’ve had an interesting storyline the last month with JJ finding out about that revisited history with Jack raping Kayla.  I remember in the 1980s what an explosive storyline that was.  How was it as an actress to go back and revisit that storyline?

MBE:  I had the luxury of being able to look it up on YouTube (laughs) because I really didn’t remember it very well because it was such a long time ago.  It was difficult for me to play that because for me…in my real life, I would have taken it to my grave.  I would have never told the poor boy.  I love him; and would never want to paint his views of his father and all that.  But things happen.  People blurt things out; and that’s what happened.  I think Kayla felt just tortured that she had done that.  Just tortured.  She loves that boy.  But I think we were all invested in it and gave it our all.  I think that it was clear that everybody felt like that.

OUTTAKES:  I hear THE BAY is coming soon again.  Are you excited about that?

MBE:  Yes, on December 4^th, he [Gregori Martin] is going to be showing us a screening of the whole thing.  So that’s exciting.  Every time we get together to shoot some of that, he really bumps up the game.  He has multiple cameras and a staff, an assistant director, lighting and all that stuff which we never had.  We had always been a little one-man band.

Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez), Lauren Koslow (Kate Roberts) and Chrishell Stause (Jordan Ridgeway); DAYS OF OUR LIVES) -- November 9th, 2013

OUTTAKES:  Galen, what does Rafe see in Kate; and what does Rafe see in Jordan?  Because we seem to be getting this triangle going on with these two women.

GG:  These two [Rafe and Kate] obviously weren’t meant to be together but they really enjoy hanging out with one another.  And obviously she’s been in his corner since he’s been hurt and looked out for him.

LK:  Remember that!

GG:  Yes, that’s right, I’ll remember that.  Jordan has also been there for him and is rehabilitating him; and he really enjoys spending time with her.  So he’s a good place if you will.

OUTTAKES:  Lauren, what is it you like the most about playing the character of Kate?

LK:  I love everything about playing the character of Kate.  She’s such an impulsive person.  She has such a complex history.  She’s a character that can go anywhere and do just about anything.  It’s always a challenge and it’s always exciting to play.  I love playing the character.

OUTTAKES:  Chrishell, I enjoyed your work very much on ALL MY CHILDREN [as Amanda].  Now you’re on DAYS as this new character.  What has been the difference with the shooting schedule and the atmosphere between ALL MY CHILDREN and DAYS OF OUR LIVES?

CS:  The shooting schedule is quite different actually.  At ALL MY CHILDREN, we only had two weeks off at Christmas; and that was it.  And at DAYS, they’re able to give us different hiatus weeks.  That’s actually very lovely to be able to take a break.  But that also means that they shoot a lot faster.  So it’s good and bad. 

OUTTAKES:  I know you really can’t say much about your character because she’s still something of a mystery woman.  There’s a lot going on with her and we don’t really know what it is yet.  What have you enjoyed so far about playing the character of Jordan?

CS:  I think probably the thing I enjoy the most is just the fact that she is so opposite Amanda.  Yes, there’s a lot of secrets coming up that I can’t talk about that have also been really fun to work with.

Bryan Dattilo (Lucas Roberts, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) -- November 9th, 2013

OUTTAKES:  How is it being back on DAYS with Lucas coming between Sami and EJ and taking Ali back?

BD:  It's been fun!  It's been really fun.  The storyline is going in different ways these days which is good for me.  It's going back my way which I'm really happy about. I don't know about getting between Sami and EJ.  That's pretty impossible.  That's a tight sandwich to stick a little piece of meat like me in.  It's fun working with James.  It's fun working with Ali.  I missed them both.  I hope that there are good things to come.

OUTTAKES:  Since you're saying there's no breaking up Sami and EJ, if Lucas were to get involved with another character on DAYS...do you have an idea of who he should get mixed up with?

BD:  There might be some new blood for him.  Existing on the canvas now, there's not a lot of options for Lucas because he's related to everybody.  Not that that's ever stopped anybody in the past!  But Lucas is trying to go by the book.  There's not a lot of opportunities for a guy like Lucas in Salem, but you never know what the future will provide.

OUTTAKES:  If you could control where the storyline would go, what kind of storyline would you like to see happen for Lucas?

BD:  I thought Lucas was always at his best at a corporate setting where he was on the business end of things.  Kind of wheeling and dealing and being the big shot that he's always wanted to be.  Being there for his son would kind of be a cool angle.  Definitely to be more involved with Will's life would be great.  I think there's a lot of good things to come so I'm actually very happy where the storyline's headed right now.
